What does Jesus say about my Identity?

Who am I?

The first place to look in order to answer this question is Jesus. Growing up a Christian all of my life, this is where my hope has always been; with that said, a bible verse cannot solve all of these identity issues that have caught so much internal and external damage to myself and those around me. As this journey continues, this might provide a healthy base as we go forward.

  • I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you’re joined with me and I with you, the relation intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. -John 15:5

  • “You didn’t choose me, remember; I chose you, and put you in the world to bear fruit, fruit that won’t spoil. As fruit bearers, whatever you ask the Father in relation to me, he gives you.-John 15:16

  • “You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.” -Matthew 5:48

  • Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds. -Matthew 6:26

Jesus is saying that as long as I am joined with him, that a harvest of health, and color will be found. To be honest, this is a big promise. Over the past year, I wonder if I’ve gone ahead of him in all of my achieving forgetting that God is faithful to complete what he has started. If I am joined with God, it is my natural response to give what I have been given: love.

This is challenging, has God given me all that I have needed but have been ignoring it? Could the peace that I have been longing for could be right before my very eyes?
