You Don't Need to be the Hero
Sitting in our staff meeting yesterday, I felt an interesting feeling. The question we asked ourselves in the meeting was this:
Are we making ourselves the hero of the story or are we a hero maker?
It's easy for me to get caught up in my own head. Often times, the topic of thought is myself. I ask myself questions like: "How are people perceiving me right now?" or "How can I appear confident?". Narcism is the word that came to mind and it wasn't easy to grapple with. I can so easily strive to be the hero, I would go as far as to say all of us have that capability within us. Whether it be getting verified on instagram, being an influencer, or wanting to be that star athlete or musician, it's easy to want to be the hero.
Let's cultivate a lifestyle in which we are progressively closing the gap between who we want be instead of making it wider. We tend to overestimate what we can do in the short term but underestimate what we can do in the long term. So, let's start doing what a humble person would do. My success should not be measured by my own accolades but by the accolades of those I love. Let's start thinking of ourselves more like Dumbledore that Harry Potter. I don't need to be the hero.
