The Positive Mr. Rogers

Did you know that Mr. Rogers got into Television because he hated it?

The first time he turned one on, he saw people angrily throwing pies in each other’s faces. He immediately vowed to use the medium for better than that. Over the years he covered topics as varied as why kids shouldn’t be scared of a haircut, or the bathroom drain (because you won’t fit!), to divorce and war.

His positivity, even when nobody else was positive, became a driving force behind his impact. When it comes to how we do church, I often lean towards cynicism because of my insecurities. If I can point the 'wrong' in something, I tend to feel more 'right'. This Elitism has led to arrogance and has often separated myself from those closest to me and even to God.

My Dad first posted about Mr. Rogers and it has reminded me that humility and positivity, in the face of dysfunction are the best vessels for change. Even though there are many things wrong with the way we do Church in America, I will remain positive, just like Mr. Rogers.

Let's decide to be Positive today
